C1 Tower

Parallel study, winning project. Housing and private clinic

Meyrin, Geneva

2013 - 2018

C1 Tower

The project forms part of a group of three buildings in the plan of the new eco-district of the Vergers in Meyrin, and occupies a dominant position, marking the entrance to the Geneva conurbation. The distinguishing feature of the site is its special location which has distant, unobstructed views of the Jura, la Coulée Verte, in the direction of the adjacent sports grounds. There is a mixture of types of accommodation, including apartments for cooperative members, LUP (Public Utility Housing) apartments, PPE (ownership by floor) apartments, and a private clinic.

The alignment by section on the natural slope of the site makes it possible to ensure independent means of access to the different types of property. The entrance to the apartments is on the ground floor, facing east, in the direction of the outside public spaces of the district. The entrance to the clinic is on the upper ground floor, facing west, with better visibility on the side of the Route de Meyrin.
The bow-tie shape of the plan makes it possible to create cross-over apartments and to give the facade vertical proportions in keeping with its situation. The cooperative apartments as well as the LUP apartments clearly prioritize the night- and daytime areas. The horizontal structure of the facades puts them in sequence, while at the same time ensuring a high degree of architectural unity based on the theme of the horizontal strip.
